I Can Actually Tolerate it This Way

3 11 2009

I was fine with “Let’s Dance” by Lady Gaga – nothing original, but it didn’t bother me.  Then she put out the next song where she totally bit Peaches’ style and everything since then has all sounded the same.

I finally saw a version of “Poker Face” that I can sit through:

I Didn’t Call Your Mother a Whore, I Just Said She Was Acting Like One

From a CNN article in reference to Boston police officer/National Guardsman Justin Barrett, who sent a letter using questionable language to refer to a Harvard Professor.  A quote from his attorney:

“Officer Barrett did not call professor Gates a jungle monkey or malign him racially,” Marano said. “He said his behavior was like that of one…”

Affion Crockett and Nick Cannon, who apparently worked together on a show I’ve never watched, did this PSA with Nas to talk about the future of hip-hop.

I’ve Waited 25 Years To See This

16 07 2009

There were lots of rumors and lots of conjecture when this event happened and now we can finally see the footage.  In 1984, while filming a commercial for Pepsi, Michael Jackson was injured when pyrotechnics lit his hair on fire.  This apparently is the event that led to his initial use (and abuse) of painkillers.

You have to admit, even with his hair on fire, that’s one bad-ass spin.

Song of the Moment

The Jacksons, minus Jermaine, who was the first to go solo.  The sound effects are overdone, but it’s a great song and great video.

The 1959 Championship (Minneapolis) Lakers team.

Minneapolis era -

It’s amazing how some things don’t change.  The uniforms are a little different, but really professional athletes are the same now as they were 50 years ago.

BART officer to be charged with murder

It’s been a while since Oscar Grant’s execution, but it appears that Johannes Mehserle will be charged with murder for shooting the man in the back while another officer knelt on his neck.

Apparently, his defense is based on the premise that he intended to use his taser instead. “I didn’t mean to kill him, your honor, I was just trying to punish and humiliate him while he was completely under control by another officer.”

Just to be clear, this is from 1976.
